Kassel is the third largest City in Hesse and is known for its culture and history. One of Kassel's most famous sights is Wilhelmshöhe Palace, a baroque palace on a hill overlooking the City, which is also home to a tall park and the Fridericianum Museum.

One of the more famous landmarks is Hercules, a 20-metre-high bronze statue perched on a hill above the City and offering a magnificent view.

Kassel is also known for its museums and galleries, including the Museum of Sepulchral Culture, the Museum of Art and Cultural History and the documenta halls, where the documenta, one of the world's most important exhibitions of contemporary art, takes place every five years.

The Karlsaue is a tall park on the Fulda river with a castle, zoo and planetarium, and the Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and popular excursion destination, is known for its water features and Hercules statue.

Kassel is a City with a rich music and theater tradition, with a variety of theaters and concert halls as well as numerous festivals and events throughout the year.
