Eisenach
Eisenach is a city in eastern Germany and the tenth largest city in the state of Thuringia. It is known as the birthplace of Johann Sebastian Bach and as the location of Wartburg Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Eisenach has a long and eventful history dating back to the Middle Ages. It was an important trading town in the Middle Ages and a center of the Reformation in Deutschland in the 16th century. In the 19th century, the City developed into an important industrial location, particularly for the textile industry. During the Second World War, the City was heavily bombed and many historic buildings were destroyed.
Today, Eisenach is a lively and historic City with many sights and cultural attractions. Wartburg Castle is one of the City's most important sights and the Bach Museum commemorates the life and work of Johann Sebastian Bach. There are also numerous museums, theaters and galleries in the City. Eisenach is a popular starting point for hikes and outdoor activities in the surrounding area and has good transport links to other cities in the region as well as to Berlin and Leipzig.
