Bayreuth has around 75,000 inhabitants and is best known for the Bayreuth Festival, an annual music festival dedicated to the music of Richard Wagner.

Historically, Bayreuth was an important residence city of the Dukes of Bavaria-Bayreuth in the Middle Ages. In the 18th century, it was a center of culture and education under the rule of Margrave Friedrich von Bayreuth. It was also the birthplace of Richard Wagner and the venue for the Bayreuth Festival, which he founded to stage his operas.

As far as sightseeing is concerned, the Bayreuth Festival is certainly the City's most famous attraction, but there are also many other historical and cultural sights to discover, such as Bayreuth Castle, once the residence of the Dukes of Bavaria-Bayreuth and now a museum and event venue, or the Richard Wagner Museum, which is dedicated to the life and work of the composer.

The population of Bayreuth is mainly German, but there are also a considerable number of foreigners from Provenance and other parts of the world, especially during the Bayreuth Festival in summer.
