Krefeld
Krefeld, located in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, is often referred to as the "City of Velvet and Silk". It owes this nickname to its former role as a center of the textile industry, especially velvet and silk production. Today, Krefeld is a modern City with a population of around 227,000, offering a mix of industrial tradition and contemporary culture.
Architecturally impressive is the Mies van der Rohe Business Park, an example of pioneering industrial architecture from the famous architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Krefeld has several cultural institutions such as the Theater Krefeld and the Kaiser Wilhelm Museum, which presents a variety of works of art from different eras.
The City is surrounded by a rich natural landscape, including the nearby Grotenburg Forest, which is ideal for outdoor activities. Krefeld Zoo is also a popular destination for families.
